[Beppu Onsen Hoyo Land] Sightseeing, Travel, Hot Spring (Beppu,Oita,Japan)

Hello! I’m Hita Papa(@hita_papa), I love Onsen and Beppu .

This time we came to “Beppu Onsen Hoyo Land”, located in the Myoban Onsen area of Beppu City, Oita Prefecture!

“Beppu Onsen Hoyo Land” is one of the top hot springs in Beppu city, no, it
is one of the world’s strongest hot springs where you can enjoy a mud bath with a rich and strong sulfur scent 😄♨️

And that’s because at Beppu Onsen Hoyo Land, you don’t soak in hot spring water poured into a bathtub, but rather you soak directly in the hot spring hell that exists in its natural state!

The open-air bath is one of the largest in Japan, and bathing in the hot spring surrounded by nature by the mountains is the best 😆

At the bottom of the hot spring is a large amount of thick mud that is rich in hot spring ingredients.

If you apply the mud to your face and body, it becomes a natural hot spring mud pack.

After you get out of the bath, your skin will feel moisturized and smooth, and what’s amazing is that the effect lasts for up to a week!

Furthermore , the mud bath, which is full of the scent of sulfur, is so rich and powerful that it could be said to be one of the strongest in the world .

Well, I’ve never been to a hot spring anywhere in the world, so I don’t know for sure, but as far as I know, this is definitely the thickest and most punchy mud bath and sulfur spring in Kyushu 😆

Now let us introduce you to “Beppu Onsen Hoyo Land”, a natural hell hot spring where you can enjoy a super rich mud bath with a strong sulfur scent!

HitaPapa

It’s a very rich mud bath that is full of intense power.

The exterior of “Beppu Onsen Hoyo Land”

”Beppu Onsen Hoyo Land” is located on a hill (or rather a mountain) in the Myoban Onsen area, and is a place rich in nature, surrounded by the greenery of the mountains and overlooking Beppu Bay.

The nearest bus stop, “Konoya Jigoku-mae,” is right in front of you.

You can get there by taking a bus to Myoban Onsen, which runs about twice an hour from JR Beppu Station.

HitaPapa

It’s in the Myoban Onsen area of Beppu.

It’s a fairly large site.

That’s because “Beppu Onsen Hoyo Land” goes directly to the natural hot spring hell “Konoya Jigoku” in the Myoban Onsen area!

I visited here in early April, and the cherry blossoms were in full bloom🌸

The parking lot is quite large and easy to park in.

HitaPapa

It’s a place full of nature with mountains and greenery.

It’s a large, very old building.

You can stay there for a bargain price of around 6,000 yen for a room only.

By the way, if you stay overnight, you can enjoy the hot springs for 24 hours (open-air baths are not available at night)♪

Enter “Beppu Onsen Hoyo Land”

When you enter the building, take off your shoes and put on slippers.

There is a reception desk right there, so you can purchase your ticket there and then head to the hot springs.

Buy your tickets at the reception

Head to the natural hot springs

After paying the fee at the reception, we headed to the hot springs.

I went outside and walked around the fairly large grounds.

HitaPapa

Once outside, walk down the long corridor leading to the hot springs.

Let’s continue walking down the long corridor.

Along the way, hot spring steam spews out, and the smell of sulfur gets you excited♪

HitaPapa

The strong smell of sulfur!

After walking down a long corridor, you will arrive at the building where the hot springs are located.

Inside is a spacious tatami-mat rest area.

Many people take a rest here after taking a bath.

There is a receptionist here too, so hand over your ticket and then head to the baths.

The baths have separate entrances for men and women.

Unfortunately, cameras are not allowed in the changing rooms or baths, so that’s all for taking photos.

Because the mud bath and sulfur spring are very acidic, be sure to remove any metal items such as rings and necklaces, as they will be discoloured by the hot spring components. (It seems that gold and platinum are okay.)

HitaPapa

Remove rings and necklaces before entering as they may discolour the water.

Bath in a super-rich, sulfur-scented hot spring

Open-air bath

A huge open-air bath!

You’ll be transported straight to natural hell! Beppu is amazing!

The dark grey hot spring water is mixed with mud, and a lot of mud has accumulated at the bottom of the hot spring.

When you scoop up the mud, it is extremely smooth and fine-grained.

The mud is rich in hot spring ingredients and has a strong sulfurous smell.

It has a stronger sulfur smell than any other sulfur spring I’ve ever known !

Apply the mud to your face and body to create a natural mud hot spring pack.

After leaving it on for a while, I washed it off with hot spring water and my skin became moisturized and smooth 😆

What’s even more amazing is that this moist and smooth feeling continued for about a week after my skin had soaked in the hot spring!

Beppu’s mud baths are amazing!

HitaPapa

You can make a natural mud pack for your face and body.

Underground mud hot spring

In addition to the open-air bath, there is also an indoor mud bath.

This is a rich mud bath and sulfur spring just like the open-air bath, but there is not as much mud as there is in the open-air bath.

If you want to use a lot of mud for your face pack, we recommend the open-air bath.

HitaPapa

There is also a rich mud bath indoors.

Colloid bath

In addition to the mud bath, there is also a rich acidic sulfur spring inside the facility.

It’s hard to tell from the photo, but the tub is quite large.

“Beppu Onsen Hoyo Land” focuses solely on its mud baths, but this acidic sulfur spring is also a wonderful hot spring that is extremely rich and powerful .

As far as I know, this hot spring has a richer, stronger sulfurous scent than any other sulfur spring in Kyushu, and I love this sulfur spring 😆👍

When you put the hot spring water in your mouth, it tastes quite sour, almost like drinking lemon water .

It tasted like a very sour Pocari Sweat .

The strong acidity made my teeth crunch.

It might be best not to put too much hot spring water in your mouth, as it could melt your teeth (lol).

HitaPapa

It’s a very thick acidic sulfur spring.

By the way, I didn’t soak the towel in the hot spring, I just wiped the hot spring water off my body after drying it off, but even after I got home and washed it, the towel still had a strong sulfur smell (゚Д゚)

What’s more, the other laundry that was selected at the same time also smelled of sulfur!

Even after washing the clothes I wore that day, they still smelled like sulfur for about a week!

Just how strong is the hot spring water at Beppu Onsen Hoyoland?😆😆👍

(※Since photography is not permitted in the hot springs, we have used photos taken from the Beppu Onsen Hoyo Land official website and the Oita Prefecture Tourism Information official website.)
