Hello! I’m Hitapapa and I love Mojiko retro.
This time we came to the Former Dalian Route Shed in Mojiko Retro, Kitakyushu City, Fukuoka Prefecture!
Mojiko Port was one of Japan’s leading international trading ports during the Meiji, Taisho, and Showa periods, and the “Old Dalian Route Shed” was built in 1929 (Showa 4) as an international ship terminal building .
The “Old Dalian Air Route Shed” is in Art Deco style and was apparently the cutting edge of architectural style at the time.
The man who designed the Old Dalian Route Shed was Yoshikuni Okuma, who also designed the National Diet Building.
At that time, the sea was just 10 meters away from the outer wall of the “Old Dalian Shipping Shed,” and large international ships were anchored there.
(It’s now reclaimed land, and the sea is just a short distance away.)
In the days before airplanes, it was one of the country’s largest terminals, bustling and supported the movement of people and cargo and international trade .
The Former Dalian Route Shed was built about 100 years ago, and has been restored and preserved to tell the history of Mojiko Port.
Now let’s take a look at the “Former Dalian Air Route Shed”!

Ships that once departed from Mojiko Port

On display are numerous models of ships that departed from Moji Port, which was an international trading port during the Meiji, Taisho, and Showa periods.
In the past, many large ships from Japan and abroad came and went through Moji Port.

All the ships have big funnels.
At that time, ships like the Titanic burned coal for fuel.
Full of retro and romantic atmosphere♪
In the old days, they used to burn coal and emit smoke to move big ships.
Ship equipment that was once used

The museum displays essential ship equipment that helped sailors on dangerous voyages in the past.
For over 100 years, before airplanes, people were conducting international trade across the vast oceans of nature.

The Former Dalian Route Shed has nothing to do with the Dalian Route or navigation, but as Kitakyushu is the “city of film,” it also has exhibits of old film projectors and other items.
You can see valuable equipment from the days of analog photography.

This book lists 100 representative films filmed in Kitakyushu from 1943 to 2023.
Apparently, more than 100 films were shot.
I was surprised to learn that so much filming was done in Kitakyushu (゚Д゚)!!

2nd floor/deck

The second floor deck of the former Dalian Route Shed.
It’s so long!!
It’s too far from one end to the other!!
I think I could easily run the 100m here.
This long corridor-like structure is called a “corridor,” and at the time, it is said that many people would see off passengers departing on large ships from this spot.
There are apparently many photographs and other images of people throwing tape from this corridor to say their final farewells.
“Old Dalian Route Shed” How long is that?!

You can see the Kanmon Straits from the second floor deck.
You can also get a good view of the Kanmon Bridge, Honshu, and Yamaguchi.
On a sunny day, the blue sky and sea are really beautiful.
Second floor: Rest room

There is also a nice lounge on the second floor.
Anyone can use it freely.
