[Kyushu Railway Museum] Sightseeing,Travel (Mojiko,Kitakyushu,Fukuoka,Japan)

Hello! This is Hitapapa.

This time we came to the Kyushu Railway Museum, located in Mojiko Retro in Kitakyushu City, Fukuoka Prefecture!

The Kyushu Railway Memorial Museum displays authentic trains from a long time ago , and is sure to excite children and adults alike!

This is a particularly great place for train fans .

The main building is a red brick structure constructed in 1888, and is a historic structure that occupies the former headquarters of Kyushu Railway Company, Kyushu’s first railway company .

Inside the museum, there are many exhibits that tell the valuable story of railway history.

There is also a mini train on the premises, where tiny trains run on a small track and you can ride your favorite train .

Children will love the mini trains!

Now, let me introduce you to the Kyushu Railway Museum.

HitaPapa

Entrance to the Kyushu Railway Museum

The Kyushu Railway Memorial Museum is located along National Route 3, next to Mojiko Retro.

A real steam locomotive welcomes you at the entrance!

The Mojiko Station located here used to be called Moji Station.

(Today’s Moji Station is located a few kilometers west of Mojiko Station.)

Next to the entrance of the Kyushu Railway Museum, excavation work is currently underway at the much talked about “old Moji Station ruins.”

It’s a strange feeling to be at the excavation site of a historic building.

If you look closely at the excavation site, you can see rows of red bricks that resemble the foundations of a building.

This must have been the foundation of the old Moji Station.

It’s quite moving to see the foundations of old buildings buried in the ground.

HitaPapa

The remains of the old Moji Station are currently being excavated!

Admission is 300 yen for adults and 150 yen for children from 4 years old to junior high school students.

I think it’s a pretty reasonable price.

Let’s take a commemorative photo♪

Trains from past eras with a retro feel

As you enter the museum, you will first see a display of a variety of retro-looking trains that were once in service.

This is a real vehicle that was actually running in the past.

This is a spectacular sight for adults, children, and even those who aren’t train fans!

You can see the huge wheels up close!

Perhaps because the body of the vehicle is made of iron, the surface is generously oiled to prevent rust, and it gives off a pleasant, nostalgic smell of iron and oil.

HitaPapa

The steam locomotive’s sense of solidity is incredible!

The surface is shiny.

You can really lie back in this seat!

The kids will be happy!

Series 14 Sleeper Car

I got to see a sleeper train for the first time!

It’s divided into the first and second floors.

I’m a little scared it might fall off.

HitaPapa

You can see a rare sleeper train!

Cute mini train

There is a small station for the mini train on site.

Buy your ticket at the station and choose your favorite train!

There is a small railway line and you can ride a mini train around the station.

This is sure to get the kids excited!!

Adults can ride together too!

There are even railroad crossings.

HitaPapa

If you visit with your children, be sure to take a ride on the mini train!

The exterior of the former Kyushu Railway Headquarters, a registered tangible cultural property

The former Kyushu Railway headquarters, built in 1888, is made of red brick and has a very retro feel.

When you look at the red bricks up close, you can really feel their weight.

It’s amazing that in the old days they used to build buildings like this, stacking red bricks one by one.

This red brick former Kyushu Railway Company headquarters building is registered as a national tangible cultural property.

Today, the building is home to a variety of historical exhibits relating to the old railroads.

HitaPapa

The red brick building, which is registered as a national tangible cultural property, has an incredible sense of grandeur.

Interior of the “Former Kyushu Railway Headquarters”

The interior of the building is also made of red brick, giving it an incredible sense of grandeur and dignity.

The inside is well reinforced and secure so it’s very safe.

There are also large Plarail trains that children will love!

Passenger car from the Meiji period

This is a passenger car from the Meiji period.

In the old days, bento boxes were sold like this in front of trains.

There are also photos of the actual bento being sold.

This is what the inside of a Meiji-era passenger car looked like.

It was much narrower than modern trains and the floor was made of wood!

And the seats are actually tatami mats!!

The retro feel is incredible!!!

Mojiko Station in the Meiji Period

This is a photo of the old Moji Station (now Mojiko Station) from the Meiji era.

There are lots of rickshaws running around on the ground!

There has been a fountain square in front of the station for a long time!

It’s extremely moving.

This is a photo of the former Kyushu Railway headquarters.

I’m in it now!

Amazing! The exterior is exactly the same now as it was back then!

Around Kyushu! Railway model

This is a model train filled with Kyushu.

It depicts each prefecture of Kyushu and has a train running on the rails.

There is also Mojiko Retro!

Driving simulator

This is a driving simulator.

You can operate the simulator from the driver’s seat and experience the sensation of actually driving a train.

I wasn’t able to take a photo of the driver’s seat, but the interior of an actual train is recreated like this, which is very realistic.
