The exterior of the Kanmon Strait Museum

The Kanmon Strait Museum is about a 9-minute walk from JR Mojiko Station!

The building is huge!

There’s nothing around it but the sea and low buildings, so it really stands out!

Across the street is the “Old Dalian Route Shed.”

The “Old Dalian Shipping Shed” has also become a popular spot for retro Mojiko tourism.

I have previously written an article about the “Old Dalian Route Shed”, so please take a look if you are interested.

Kaikyo Retro Street (1st floor)

First, enter the building and head to Kaikyo Retro Street on the first floor!

The image of Mojiko city, which is said to have been a bustling metropolis during the Meiji, Taisho, and Showa periods, is recreated.

Entering Kaikyo Retro Street is free.

This is where you can buy bananas, a specialty of Mojiko Port, at bargain prices.

There were also painters on the roadside.

Shop

It is a reproduction of a real store called “Tezuka Shoten.”

It was a modern store with a show window, which was rare at the time.

Ryokan

Mojiko Port was a bustling and prosperous area from the Meiji period to the early Showa period, and was home to many wooden inns.

It seems that it was used by businessmen and sailors.

There is a souvenir shop inside the inn.

Sumitomo Bank, Moji Branch

Sumitomo Bank Moji Branch opened in 1900.

The stately building, reminiscent of Greece and Rome, was a perfect fit for the prosperous town of Mojiko.

Mitsui Bank, Moji Branch

The Mitsui Bank Moji Branch opened in 1898 in Moji Port, which was an important port for transporting coal from the Meiji period through the early Showa period.

The stately building was said to be comparable in size to the Mitsui & Co. Tokyo Head Office, which was built around the same time.

The inside of the bank has been turned into a souvenir shop.

Tram

The streetcar system opened in Kitakyushu in 1911 and supported people’s transportation through the Meiji, Taisho, and Showa periods.

It seems to be a reproduction of the streetcars from the Meiji and Taisho periods as much as possible.

You can even get inside the tram!

The kids were thrilled with this!

Bank of Japan Western Branch

The Bank of Japan’s Western Branch opened in 1898 to oversee all of western Japan.

It symbolizes Mojiko Port, which was then the financial center of western Japan.

heater

Asahi-za is a theater that was established in Mojiko Port in 1921.

It seems that it was a lively place, not only for plays but also for musical performances such as violin playing.

Sakae Alley

Sakaemachi in Mojiko was bustling during the Meiji, Taisho and early Showa periods.

The bustle of Mojiko in the past

A collection of valuable photographs that preserve the history of Mojiko Retro, which flourished during the Meiji, Taisho, and early Showa periods.

Black and white photographs like this are so precious.

I hope that the history of Mojiko Port will be passed down to future generations in this way forever.

Kaikyo Children’s Plaza (2nd floor)

On the second floor there is the “Straits Children’s Plaza” where children can play!

The history of Mojiko Port may be fun for adults, but it can be boring for children, so the tour is designed with children in mind!

This is an area where children from 1 year old to 6th grade can play.

The fee is 100 yen per person (including accompanying adults).

This is a play area where you climb up a net path that stretches vertically from the second to third floor.

The kids were really happy with this!

It’s a momentum that will keep you playing forever!

There is a fee, but it’s only 100 yen, so it’s a good place to play on rainy days.

You cannot enter without shoes, so make sure to wear shoes instead of sandals.

HitaPapa

This is a place where small children will be very happy!!

Cafe (4th floor)

There is a cafe on the 4th floor.

It’s a really exciting zone!

Kaikyo Atrium Broadcast

The “Strait Atrium” projects several videos themed around the Kanmon Strait onto an enormous screen.

The broadcast times are fixed, so please check the broadcast schedule.

When I went there, the video being broadcast was “A Day in the Strait.”

It was an interesting video showing a tour through the waters of the Kanmon Strait.

Anyway, the screen is huge!

HitaPapa

The images projected on the giant screen are spectacular!

Straits Historical Corridor

An exhibition zone that tells the story of the various historical events that have unfolded around the Kanmon Strait.

There are many famous historical events, such as the Genpei War and the duel between Musashi and Kojiro.

It’s a corridor, so walk around and check out the exhibits!

HitaPapa

There are many things that appear in history textbooks, so adults can have fun looking at them carefully.

Strait Experience Zone

In the “Strait Experience Zone,” you can drive a ship through the Kanmon Strait and move cargo with a crane in a game-like setting.

The kids will be very happy!

The overseas base is Shimonoseki, Honshu.

On sunny days, the sky and sea are incredibly blue and beautiful!
