This time we will be introducing the Mojiko Retro Observation Deck in Kitakyushu, Fukuoka Prefecture!
From the observation deck on the top 31st floor, you can enjoy a spectacular view of the retro townscape of Mojiko, the Kanmon Straits, the Kanmon Bridge, and Shimonoseki on Honshu!
On a clear day, the combination of the sky and the Kanmon Straits is incredibly beautiful .

The tall building towering over Mojiko Retro is the Mojiko Retro Observation Deck.
The top floor is an observation deck, and the rest are condominiums.

It looks tall from afar and up close!
The retro brick building near the entrance to the Mojiko Retro Observation Deck is the Dalian Friendship Memorial Hall.
You can see the collaboration between Mojiko Retro Observation Room and Dalian Friendship Memorial Hall.


In front of the Mojiko Retro Observation Deck there is a small plaza like this.

Right in front of the Mojiko Retro Observation Deck is the Former Moji Customs House.

Take the elevator up to the observation deck on the 31st floor


When you enter the Mojiko Retro Observation Deck, you’ll feel like you’re in a small lobby, but this is not the reception area, so you just take the elevator up to the 31st floor where the observation deck is located.

It’s getting higher and higher!!
The cityscape of Mojiko Port and the mountains of Moji come into view!

Observation Deck
As soon as you get off the elevator on the top floor (31st floor), you will see the reception desk, where you can pay your fee.

There are some small standing tables by the windows, so you can enjoy the view while sipping your drink.

A classic observation deck! Binoculars are also available for a fee!
Binoculars cost 200 yen for 2 minutes.

This cafe is run by Grande D’Azur, the cake shop that makes Nejichoco, a famous Kitakyushu souvenir.

From the observation deck, you can enjoy a spectacular view of the Mojiko Port cityscape, the Kanmon Straits, the Kanmon Bridge, and Honshu/Shimonoseki!

You can look down on famous Mojiko retro sites such as Mojiko Station, Premier Hotel Mojiko, Kaikyo Plaza, and the Former Moji Customs House from above!

On a nice day, the Kanmon Straits are truly beautiful!
On the opposite bank is Shimonoseki City, Yamaguchi Prefecture, Honshu.
You can also see ships passing through the Kanmon Straits.

You can also get a good view of the Kanmon Bridge, which connects Kyushu and Honshu!

This is the town of Mojiko and the mountains of Moji.

You can also look down on the “Drawbridge Blue Wing Moji.”

A large tanker-like ship is just passing under the Kanmon Bridge!
Many large ships, including tankers, pass through the Kanmon Strait.
The Kanmon Strait is a small stretch of sea between Kyushu and Honshu, but an astonishing 1,000 ships pass through it every day!

Just then, a ferry from Shimonoseki on Honshu arrived at Moji Port.
The Kanmon Ferry runs between Karato in Shimonoseki and Mojiko Port about three times an hour.
It takes about 5 minutes one way (400 yen for adults) to cross the sea, so you can visit Mojiko and Karato in Shimonoseki in one day.
The Kanmon Ferry leaves about three times an hour, so you can use it like a bus.
Conclusion
The view from the 31st floor of the retro Mojiko townscape, the Kanmon Straits, the Kanmon Bridge, and Shimonoseki on Honshu is spectacular!
You can see both Kyushu and Honshu and feel like you’re at the very top of Kyushu on the map!
The observation deck has a large floor and is equipped with plenty of tables, chairs, and benches, so you can relax and buy drinks and sweets at the adjacent Grand D’Azur Cafe.
The admission fee is only 300 yen, which is not too expensive, so this is a must-visit spot for those sightseeing in Mojiko Retro!
