The exterior of “Peaceful Seiryusen”
“Peaceful Seiryusen” is a hot spring public bath located right in the center of Kawatana Onsen hot spring town.
There is also a spacious private car park so you can drive right up to the venue.
This hot spring is also used by many locals.

There is a spacious parking lot, so it is easy to park your car.

“Peaceful Seiryusen” is a hot spring public bathhouse that is popular among locals.
Peaceful Seiryusen family bath
Once you pay the fee at the reception, you will be given a key to the family bath.
The family bath is on the second floor.

This time it’s the sunflower at the very corner.
There are four family baths, but they all basically have the same bathtub and changing room.
Dressing room

The dressing room is very spacious and clean.
There is a table, chairs, and even a TV, so you can take a break here after your bath.
You can spend plenty of time here, 80 minutes on weekdays and 60 minutes on weekends, so you can relax and unwind.

There is also a sink and a hairdryer.

There is also air conditioning.
I get hot when I go into a hot spring, whether it’s summer or winter, so I always set the air conditioner in the family bathroom to 18 degrees Celsius and keep it as cold as possible.
The changing rooms are very spacious and clean!
Hot spring

Compared to the spacious changing room, the bathroom and bathtub are quite small.
It’s nice to have a big bathtub, but if you only think about the freshness of the hot spring water and hygiene, a smaller bathtub actually allows the water to be replaced more quickly, so the bathtub is always filled with fresh water .
A lot of hot spring water is poured into the small bathtub.

It’s just the right size for one adult, but can also accommodate up to two adults.
If you bring a family of 4 or 5 people, it will feel quite crowded (laughs).
That’s fun in its own way!
The bathtub is a little small

With the abundant amount of hot spring water that only Motoyu can provide, plenty of hot spring water flows out of the spout !
The hot springs are colorless and almost odorless.
The water has a mild feel to it, so you won’t get bored even if you bathe every day.
If you try tasting the hot spring water from the outlet, you will notice a slight saltiness.
(It is not drinkable, so taste it at your own risk!)
It’s a very mild and pleasant hot spring with plenty of water!
Because the amount of water poured is large and the bathtub is small, the bath is always filled with fresh hot spring water, which feels great .
The hot spring water is fresh and plentiful, and it feels great!
The only disappointing thing is that the hot springs have a chlorine smell because they are disinfected with chlorine.
Since the source bath has an abundant amount of fresh hot spring water, I wish they wouldn’t use chlorine, but the large bath is like a small super public bath, so from a hygiene standpoint, the administrators may have no choice but to disinfect it with chlorine…😭
Although the water is disinfected with chlorine, it is not circulated or diluted with water; instead, it is 100% natural hot spring water, which is poured in abundance and feels very pleasant.
The ideal situation would be “100% natural spring water, no water added or heated, no chlorine, no circulation,” but since hot springs like that are becoming rare, there’s no point in being too picky.
(Unfortunately, even the famous and historic Dogo Onsen in Ehime and Takeo Onsen in Saga are required by ordinance to use chlorine disinfection even for free-flowing hot springs…)
It’s a great hot spring with an abundance of water, but it’s a bit disappointing that they use chlorine.
Washing area

The family bath also has a washing area with a shower.
Body soap and rinse-in shampoo are also available.
The washing area is equipped with showers and soaps.

It clearly says here that the water is disinfected with chlorine.
Since hot spring bathhouses are used by many people, chlorine disinfection is probably unavoidable.
The atmosphere inside “Peaceful Seiryusen”

The interior of Peaceful Seiryusen has a warm wooden feel and is very clean and well-maintained.

Purchase a bathing ticket from the ticket machine and hand it over to the reception desk to enter the bath.

They also sell small souvenirs and sweets.

There is a wide selection of drinks available for after the bath.

When you think of a public bath, you think of bottled milk!
There are three types: strawberry milk, fruit milk, and coffee milk.

They also have black vinegar drink, which you often see at super public baths!
There is a wide selection of drinks to enjoy after your bath.

Enjoy a sweet treat after your bath at the long-established confectionery shop, “Sanshundo”!

Just a few minutes walk from Peaceful Seiryusen is Sanshundo, a long-established confectionery shop founded in 1903.
It’s a cheap and delicious shop that sells a variety of sweets, including Japanese and Western confectioneries, and my family always stops by after a bath when we come to Kawatana Onsen!
All of them are cheap and delicious, so I recommend them, but this time I bought the standard “Kawara Choux”, “Onsen Pudding” and “Kawatana Manju” and ate them on the spot.
I have written in detail about Sanshundo in another article, so be sure to read that article as well.

Kawara shoe (200 yen)

“Kawara Choux” is a crispy pie crust filled with plenty of custard cream .
It was probably made with the image of the tiles on Kawara Soba, a specialty of Kawatana Onsen.
The crispy pie crust and rich, moderately sweet custard cream are absolutely delicious!
If you eat it on the spot, the batter will spill out a lot, so it’s best not to eat it in the car (lol).
Hot spring pudding (200 yen)

This is my favorite, hot spring pudding.
The surface is firm, but the inside is soft and creamy .
It has a very simple and rustic taste, but I love it !!
It’s just the right amount of sweet, and the caramel sauce at the bottom is bittersweet and delicious.
They also sell “pumpkin pudding,” which has a slight pumpkin flavor and is delicious, so I also recommend this.
Kawatana manju

Sanshundo’s classic “Kawatana Manju”.
If you stay at a ryokan in Kawatana Onsen, you’ll be served these Kawatana manju as Japanese sweets in your room.
(Actually, my family often visits Kawatana Onsen, but since it’s quite close to Kitakyushu, we’ve never stayed there…)
The white bean paste contains milk and mirin, making it a very original dessert that is like both a Japanese sweet and a Western dessert.
The simple flavor is so delicious that you’ll want to eat as many as you can !
By the way, whenever you shop at Sanshundou, they also give you a complimentary Kawatana Manju!

Please come and try the family bath at Peaceful Seiryusen at least once!
