[Grilled Curry] “Princess Phi Phi” Sightseeing,Travel,Gourmet (Mojiko,Kitakyushu,Fukuoka,Japan)

Hello! I’m Hitapapa and I love grilled curry.

This time, we will introduce you to “Princess Phi Phi”, a baked curry restaurant located in Mojiko Retro in Kitakyushu City, Fukuoka Prefecture!

The curry is not Japanese-style curry, but an original created by the owner based on Thai red curry, and is a spicy curry made with plenty of vegetables and spices .

The owner is also a vegetable sommelier and is particular about the ingredients he uses, so you can enjoy healthy and gentle curry.

The right half of the curry rice is brown rice and mixed grain rice, and the left half is white rice.

And “Princess Phi Phi” has even had the honor of having the Queen of Thailand visit !

What’s more, Princess Phi Phi’s baked curry was even dedicated to Ise Shrine, where the god of food resides!

This is an incredibly amazing restaurant.

Now let me introduce you to “Princess Phi Phi”, a baked curry restaurant located in Mojiko Retro♪

The exterior of “Princess Phi Phi”

It is located across the road from JR Mojiko Station and is marked by a cute yellow sign.

What’s even more surprising is that the Queen of Thailand is actually visiting the store!

Princess Phi Phi’s curry is an original recipe based on Thai red curry (although I don’t know if it has anything to do with the fact that the princess visited the restaurant…)

The store opens at 11:00, but even on weekdays customers start lining up from around 10:45, and by lunchtime even on weekdays there’s a line, proving just how popular it is .

There are so many items on the menu that it can be hard to decide which curry to order, so it’s a good idea to check out the menu outside the shop while you wait.

HitaPapa

It’s so popular that even on weekdays, there are lines before the store opens at 11:00.

HitaPapa

It’s right in front of JR Mojiko Station.

The atmosphere inside “Princess Phi Phi”

The interior of the store is bright and dazzling with sunlight streaming in.

You can feel the warmth of the wood.

The Kanmon Strait is located very close to the restaurant, so you can enjoy this view while eating your curry from the seats facing the sea.

If you can get in as soon as the restaurant opens, try to sit on the ocean side.

HitaPapa

The restaurant is bright and you can see the Kanmon Straits from the window seats.

The autographs of celebrities are on display.

It seems like it’s been featured a lot in the media.

Cute coaster.

The king and princess of these crowned ducks are the mascot characters of “Princess Phi Phi”.

They are also particular about the water they use and seem to use “nano water.”

(I don’t know for sure, but it seems like it’s good for your health.)

Walnut Takana Pickles

When you sit down, they will serve you their homemade “walnut takana” for free.

“Kurumi Takana” is a combination of walnuts, takana, and plums, and has a nice texture and tastes more like pickled plums than pickled takana.

Addictively delicious♪

They also sell takeaway items.

HitaPapa

The owner’s original “Walnut Takana” has an addictive taste!

I’ll have grilled curry!

Fukuoka asparagus and beef Bismarck-style baked curry (1,300 yen)

From the many grilled curries available, I chose the “Bismarck-style grilled curry with Fukuoka asparagus and beef.”

This curry contains three large stalks of asparagus, chunks of beef, and two types of sauce: white sauce and curry sauce .

Something delicious fried until crispy.

It’s like a salty fried rice cracker.

The asparagus is deep fried like tempura, so it’s crispy on the outside and moist and delicious on the inside.

The curry is covered with cheese and baked in the oven until golden brown.

The eggs are also fried at the same time.

When you break the cheese into pieces with a spoon and scoop it up, it becomes soft.

The white sauce on the left is white sauce, and the curry sauce on the right.

White sauce is placed on top of curry sauce.

The curry is a very authentic spice curry, not the curry that Japanese people are used to eating, but a real curry made with plenty of vegetables and spices.

There’s also quite a bit of tomato flavor.

It’s quite spicy, about the same level as regular Japanese curry.

The curry sauce itself is quite spicy, but when mixed with the white sauce the spiciness becomes milder.

It’s filled with lots of chunky beef (although it’s a little hard to see because it’s covered in white sauce).

The rice in Princess Phi Phi’s curry is half brown rice and half white rice.

Rather than a blend of brown rice and white rice, the right half of the plate is brown rice and the left half is white rice.

It’s a little hard to see because it’s covered in white sauce, but this is brown rice.

In addition to brown rice, it also contains mixed grains, which gives it a nice texture.

The left half is white rice.

The egg baked with the cheese is soft and runny.

Mixing it with spicy curry makes it mellow and a great match!

Two types of sauce are used: white sauce and curry sauce.

Specialty! Vegetable Sommelier Grilled Curry (1,150 yen)

This is the “Vegetable Sommelier Grilled Curry” topped with 12 kinds of grilled vegetables made by the owner, who is a vegetable sommelier.

This is Princess Phi Phi’s classic specialty grilled curry, so if you’re not sure which grilled curry to choose, we recommend this “Vegetable Sommelier Grilled Curry .

The curry sauce does not contain any other white sauce, so you can enjoy the original taste of Princess Phi Phi curry as well as the seasonal vegetables .

The owner, a vegetable sommelier, is particular about serving all the vegetables with the skin on so that you can get all of their nutritional value .

Potatoes, broccoli, corn.

Burdock, potatoes.

Lotus root, pumpkin, taro, eggplant.

Carrots, purple sweet potatoes, and komatsuna.

Crunchy grilled cheese.

The egg is soft-cooked and runny.

The previously mentioned “Bismarck-style Fukuoka Asparagus and Beef Baked Curry” uses two types of sauce, curry sauce and white sauce, but this “Vegetable Sommelier Baked Curry” uses only curry sauce, allowing you to enjoy the original flavor of the curry.

It’s an authentic spicy curry with plenty of tomato flavor .

HitaPapa

If you can’t decide which baked curry to have, we recommend the “Vegetable Sommelier Baked Curry”!

Menu

The owner traveled around Eurasia, mainly in Asia, and visited 25 countries when he was in his 20s.

Ise Shrine Offering Baked Curry

Apparently Princess Phi Phi’s baked curry was even dedicated to Ise Shrine, where the god of food resides!

Thank you for the grilled curry!

HitaPapa

Princess Phi Phi’s grilled curry is also offered to Ise Shrine.

Takeaway sales also available

The store sells “baked curry (ready-made)” and “walnut takana” for takeaway.

Some tourists bought them to take home, while others arranged for them to be mailed to their homes.

HitaPapa

They also sell “ready-to-eat curry” and “walnut takana” for takeaway.

Enjoy authentic spiced baked curry

The curry at “Princess Phi Phi” is not a Japanese-style curry, but an original curry based on Thai red curry, a spicy authentic curry with plenty of tomatoes .

It’s quite spicy, about the same level of spiciness as regular Japanese curry.

The owner traveled around Eurasia, mainly Asia, in his 20s and visited 25 countries, so the curry he makes is sure to be inspired by the various flavors and ingredients he tasted in each country.

The owner is also a vegetable sommelier, so you can enjoy healthy and gentle curry made with carefully selected ingredients .

There are many grilled curry options on the menu, so if you can’t decide what to order, we recommend Princess Pipi’s specialty, the “Vegetable Sommelier Grilled Curry .

A spicy baked curry topped with 12 kinds of seasonal grilled vegetables.

It’s conveniently located right in front of JR Mojiko Station, so if you’re visiting Mojiko Retro, be sure to try Princess Phi Phi’s grilled curry!

HitaPapa

Be sure to try Princess Phi Phi’s baked curry!

See you soon!
