This time, we visited Rokuyokan, a long-established coffee shop located in Mojiko Retro in Kitakyushu City, Fukuoka Prefecture, which serves delicious baked curry.
Rokuyokan is located along National Route 3, about a 2-minute walk from the center of Mojiko Retro Tourism.

The exterior of Rokuyokan

It has a nice cafe atmosphere with a Showa retro feel.
The red bricks give off a sense of history and are really nice.

There is a small stage inside the store where they also hold live jazz and blues music.

Rokuyokan is located at a large intersection, about a 1-2 minute walk from the Mojiko Retro tourist spot.

National Route 3 is in front of Rokuyokan.
The road in front of the store leads to the nearby Kanmon Tunnel.

Also, just a few dozen meters away from Rokuyokan is Mojiko’s traditional Gintengai shopping district.
This Gintengai shopping street also has a nice Showa retro feel to it.
The atmosphere inside Rokuyokan

The interior of the cafe is incredibly tasteful and has a Showa retro feel.
You can use it as it is for a retro movie cafe!

There is a small stage at one end of the store.
There is a grand piano, drums, guitars, etc.
It seems that they also hold live jazz and blues performances on this stage.
It’s an irresistible space for music lovers.

A bookshelf lined with retro Showa-era books.
Too retro!
Menu of “Rokuyokan”

In addition to baked curry, Rokuyokan also offers a full range of cafe menu items, including spaghetti, pancakes, sweets such as homemade pudding, and drinks.
A customer who seemed to be a long-time regular was ordering coffee and pudding at the counter seat.
There are also handmade sweets available each day.
I’ll have grilled curry!
Grilled curry (850 yen)

Here it is! Rokuyokan’s grilled curry!

It’s so hot that the curry is bubbling and boiling.

The smell of crispy burnt cheese is amazing!

It comes in a cute red container.
Be careful not to get burned as the whole container is baked in the oven.

Deep brownish curry roux.
It’s so thick you can see the generous amount of vegetables melted into it.
When I put just the curry roux in my mouth to check the taste, it was so delicious, like the umami and sweetness of various vegetables were condensed together!!
It also tastes like tomato.
It’s a very rich and thick curry.
The flavor of vegetables and tomatoes is concentrated.

When you insert a spoon into the cheese it will break apart.

Freshly baked cheese stretches really well!
Once it cools a little the cheese becomes chewy and delicious!

Enjoy by mixing curry roux, cheese and rice!
It’s absolutely delicious.

There is a raw egg underneath the cheese.
It’s barely cooked through and still very soft.

Mixing the egg in makes the curry and cheese a perfect match!!
