[Soba,Tempura “Shiraishi”] “Soba noodles” “Buckwheat noodles” Sightseeing,Travel,Gourmet (Kitakyushu,Fukuoka,Japan)

Hello! This is Hitapapa.

This time we will introduce you to Soba Shiraishi, located in Kokurakita Ward, Kitakyushu City, Fukuoka Prefecture!

Soba Shiraishi is a popular soba restaurant in the city of Kokura where you can enjoy delicious soba and tasty alcoholic drinks .

For a long time, it was located in Kon’ya-cho, Kokurakita-ku, but in September 2023 it moved to Konan-cho, also in Kokurakita-ku (near Mihagino Station on the Monorail) and is now only open during the day.

Even after relocating, the restaurant remains extremely popular as it continues to serve delicious soba noodles and alcohol.

Before the relocation, the restaurant was located near a drinking district, so many customers came to enjoy a drink, but since the relocation it is only open during the day, so it seems that most customers come to enjoy the delicious soba noodles.

Now, let us introduce you to Soba Shiraishi, a beloved restaurant in Kokura that has been in business for over 30 years!

HitaPapa

It’s a popular soba restaurant in Kokura.

The exterior of “Soba Shiraishi”

Soba Shiraishi is located about a 5-minute walk from Mihagino Station on the monorail.

It is located a little way inside the intersection where Nitori is located along National Route 3.

The shop is in a detached house and has a cabin-like atmosphere.

There is no parking lot at the store, so if you come by car, you will need to use a nearby paid parking lot.

(There is a car parked in front of the store, but this is a monthly parking lot that has nothing to do with our business.)

HitaPapa

There is no parking lot, so let’s park in a paid parking lot.

The street in front of the store looks like this.

It is located right in front of the temple.

Because it is a popular restaurant, you have to write your name and wait your turn.

It’s written in English too, so I’m sure they have a lot of customers from overseas.

There are also chairs carefully placed in front of the store entrance for customers to wait in line.

There is a roof so you don’t have to worry even on rainy days.

HitaPapa

You can sit on a chair outside the store and wait.

A thoughtful touch is that they provide soba soup in front of the store.

The staff at the restaurant were very kind and told us to wait while drinking some soba soup.

Hot, piping hot soba soup is very helpful in warming up your body while waiting outside on a cold day.

And this soba soup is delicious!

HitaPapa

While you’re waiting in line, be sure to try some soba soup.

The waiting area is decorated with pictures of buckwheat flowers and buckwheat seeds.

Looking at this photo while sipping on the soba soup just gets me excited about the soba!

HitaPapa

Enter the store with rising expectations!

The atmosphere inside “Soba Shiraishi”

The interior of the store is filled with the gentle warmth of wood.

It is a small restaurant with six seats at the counter and eight seats at tables (two tables for four people each).

The counter is made of a large, sturdy, solid piece of wood.

I get so excited when I see a wooden counter like this at a soba restaurant or sushi restaurant!

HitaPapa

The interior of the store is filled with the warmth of wood.

There are many decorations in the store.

Apparently all the books on the shelves are the owner’s favorites.

Children’s chairs are also available.

It’s a popular restaurant that often has long queues, but it seems to be OK for small children too.

HitaPapa

There are also child chairs

Let’s have some soba noodles!

Duck soba noodles 1,600 yen

Duck Zaru Soba is now available!

The soba noodles are served dipped in warm duck broth.

Zaru soba noodles

The soba noodles are a beautiful whitish color.

First, try the soba on its own before dipping it in the soup.

It has just the right amount of firmness and a soft, fragrant buckwheat flavor .

The soba noodles are not strong in flavor, but have a mild taste, and are so delicious that you will never get tired of them, no matter how many bites you eat !

HitaPapa

The mild-tasting soba noodles are absolutely delicious.

Duck broth

It comes with plenty of warm duck broth.

It contains a lot of duck meat and has good fat and broth .

It also contains plenty of green onions and shimeji mushrooms, making this a satisfying soup stock on its own .

The green thing floating in the middle is grated Japanese pepper leaf and has a wonderful aroma.

The soup has a strong flavor and a fragrant dashi stock .

The strong soup goes perfectly with the mild soba noodles.

It contains a lot of large pieces of duck meat and is very satisfying to eat.

It’s chewy and the more you chew it the more flavorful it becomes.

The green onions and shimeji mushrooms are soaked in a rich soup, giving them a strong flavor.

It’s delicious just eating the green onions and shimeji mushrooms as is.

HitaPapa

The duck broth has a strong flavor.

Buckwheat soup

The duck soba noodles come with buckwheat soup.

There’s plenty in a large teapot!

I had some soba soup while I was waiting outside earlier, but I’ll have some again now.

The fragrant soba soup is delicious!

I mixed the soba soup with duck broth and drank it, and it was absolutely delicious !

HitaPapa

The hot soba soup is delicious!

Shrimp tempura soba 1,400 yen

Shrimp tempura soba, a set of shrimp tempura and soba noodles, has arrived!

Soba noodles

The broth is light in color and beautifully clear.

The flavor of the dashi stock is rich and the gentle taste spreads throughout your mouth .

The broth for the soba noodles is incredibly delicious!

I’m always worried about the salt content of ramen, soba, or udon, so I end up leaving the soup, but Shiraishi’s broth is low in salt, so I can gulp it down and enjoy it !

It has a gentle taste and is very delicious!

HitaPapa

The flavorful and low-salt broth is delicious!

I’ll have some soba noodles.

At some restaurants, the soup stock is so strong that you can’t taste the soba, but Shiraishi’s soup stock has a very mild flavor, so you can really taste the flavor of the soba in your Kakesoba .

Soba noodles with a gentle flavor and a mild broth.

The soba noodles are topped with mitsuba and yuzu peel.

The scent of mitsuba and yuzu peel is amazing !

It’s a nice accent to the light and gentle broth!

A small amount of white spring onion is served on the side, so add it to the soup stock to your liking.

It’s a small amount, but adding it to soup stock will add a nice green onion flavor and make it really delicious!

The broth itself has a mild flavor, so you can directly taste the flavors of the soba noodles, mitsuba, yuzu peel, and white onion .

This is a soup stock with “great flavor” that does not rely on strong soy sauce or salt.

HitaPapa

The flavors of mitsuba, yuzu peel, and white onion are delicious.

There is a wooden box of chili peppers on the table.

The wooden box is very tasteful.

I wanted to enjoy the flavor of the soup stock, so after drinking about half of it, I added a lot of chili pepper to change the flavor and then drank it all!

I love chili pepper, so I always start by tasting the flavor of the dashi stock, then add lots of chili pepper to make it super spicy.

Tempura

The tempura includes two large, beautiful shrimp, shishito peppers, and figs.

Shiraishi serves tempura made with seasonal fruits .

You can enjoy rare tempura such as strawberry tempura and grape tempura.

HitaPapa

At Shiraishi, you can eat seasonal fruit tempura.

The shrimp tempura is really large and impressive.

Beautiful from every angle!

Hot and crispy tempura is absolutely delicious !

The shrimp tempura is quite large, thick and satisfying !

HitaPapa

It’s a pretty big shrimp tempura.

The Shishito peppers are also quite large.

I love Shishito pepper tempura!

This season’s fruit tempura is fig.

Fruit tempura is quite rare, but it is so delicious!!

The soft figs go perfectly with the crispy batter !

HitaPapa

The sweetness of the figs and the salt go perfectly together.

Tempura is served with salt instead of tempura sauce.

Menu of “Soba Shiraishi”

Sake is not listed on the menu, so if you are looking to enjoy a drink, ask the staff to show you the “Today’s List” of sake.

HitaPapa

There is a sake list, and they also have snacks that you can only find at a soba restaurant!

Thank you for the meal

“Soba Shiraishi” was a great restaurant with great soba, great broth, and a great atmosphere .

The soba noodles have a gentle flavor rather than a strong taste, and the broth for the soba noodles is low in salt and has a great flavor .

“Soba Shiraishi” has a gentle taste that is simply amazing !

And the chef and the staff are very kind!

I used to think that even in popular soba restaurants, the chef might be a little scary, the staff might be busy, and I might have to be a little humble and cringe while eating, but it was the exact opposite!

The chef is always smiling and very kind, and the other staff are also very friendly.

Everyone’s kind nature is apparent on their faces.

The soba noodles were delicious and the staff were warm and kind, making this a soba restaurant that truly satisfied my tongue, stomach, and heart.

We hope you all will try Soba Shiraishi at least once!

HitaPapa

You can eat authentic and delicious soba noodles in the city.

I hope the above information is of some help.

See you soon!
