Hello! This is Hitapapa.
This time we will introduce you to Kaito, a seafood restaurant located in Mojiko Retro in Kitakyushu City, Fukuoka Prefecture!
Kaito is a direct-operated wholesaler, making it an attractive sushi restaurant where you can enjoy authentic, delicious fish at reasonable prices .
The second floor is a seafood restaurant that also serves fugu courses.
There is a sushi restaurant on the first floor.
This time I went to the sushi restaurant on the first floor.
Kaito is located in Mojiko Retro, and there is a spectacular view like this right near the store↓↓↓

On sunny days, the sky and sea are blue and truly beautiful.

When I took this photo, it was high tide and the sea was right at my feet.

Exterior

It is a beautiful and clean building.
If there was a seafood restaurant like this right next to the sea, I’d definitely want to go in.

Kaito is right next to National Route 3.
If you park your car in the affiliated multi-storey car park across the road, the store will give you a parking voucher .

On the opposite side of National Route 3 is Mojiko Retro.

This time we will introduce the sushi restaurant on the first floor.
There’s a sushi restaurant on the first floor and a seafood restaurant on the second floor.
Atmosphere inside the Restaurant

The interior of the store is very clean and has the warmth of wood.
The counter seats stretch out in a straight line.
The chef in front of you will make the sushi for you.
There are table seats lined up opposite the counter seats.
The table seats are spacious box-type.

On the table there is soy sauce for sashimi, ponzu sauce, pickled ginger and tea.

Orders are placed using a touch panel.
The touch panel makes it easy to choose your toppings and order at any time you like.
Sushi menu

All sushi is ordered one piece at a time.
Since they are each served individually, it’s nice to be able to enjoy a variety of different toppings.
Most sushi can be enjoyed at around 100 and 200 yen per piece.
Even when you want to eat something a little more expensive, you can order one piece at a time, so it’s easy to get your hands on something a little more expensive.
The more expensive ingredients cost around 300 yen per piece.
Sushi is ordered one piece at a time, so you can try a variety of different types.

In addition to the main menu, the daily specials are placed on the table.
In addition to sushi, they also have fried foods, soups, chawanmushi, udon, and more.
They also serve udon, inari sushi, natto rolls and other dishes, so it’s safe even for families with small children .
I’ll have some sushi.
Bluefin tuna lean meat (242 yen)

Rich red meat that lets you fully enjoy the flavor of tuna.
It has little water and a strong flavor.
It’s very soft.
Yellowtail amberjack (198 yen)

Plump yellowtail.
After the chewy texture, you can taste the sweetness of the yellowtail.
Fatty salmon (220 yen)

Salmon toro with beautiful marbling.
With cheap salmon toro, the smell of fat can be a concern, but this salmon toro has absolutely no smell, and the savory flavor and sweetness of the salmon fat hits you right in the mouth.
Live sardines (165 yen)

Extremely fresh live sardines.
There is absolutely no odor that is typical of blue fish.
It’s fatty, soft and delicious.
As someone who loves sardine sushi, I’m really happy to be able to eat fresh, delicious sardines at such an affordable price.
Squid (132 yen)

The surface has the crunchy texture that is characteristic of cuttlefish.
The more you chew, the more the sweetness and flavor of the squid comes through.
Despite its deliciousness, it’s incredibly cheap and reasonable at 132 yen per piece.
Eel (198 yen)

The eel is served freshly grilled and warm.
The grilling enhances the aroma and fattiness, making it incredibly delicious.
And it’s extremely soft.
When eating raw sushi, having some cooked sushi like eel in between can be a nice palate cleanser.
Raw shrimp (143 yen)

Raw shrimp with a firm texture.
There is not the slightest bit of fishy smell, and the more you chew it, the more sweet it becomes.
Considering how delicious it is, I think 143 yen per piece is a great price.
Horse mackerel (165 yen)

This is a live horse mackerel with quite a lot of meat.
It’s thick, filling and very satisfying to eat.
This one also has absolutely no odor that is typical of blue fish.
Blue fish like horse mackerel and sardines often have a strong odor when sold at supermarkets or chain restaurants, so it’s great to be able to eat fresh, truly delicious blue fish.
Striped jack (253 yen)

Striped jack with a crunchy texture.
The more you chew it, the sweeter it tastes and the more delicious it becomes.
The sushi is quite thick, but it has been cut with a knife into several places so it is easy to eat.
I’m so happy to be able to eat such a large striped jack.
Puffer (275 yen)

This is puffer fish, a Kanmon specialty.
In Shimonoseki and Moji, fugu is called “fuku,” a play on the word “fuku” (happiness).
It has a great texture and a mild flavor.
The chef recommended I have it with ponzu sauce, but I chose to have it with sashimi soy sauce.
If I were eating fugu sashimi, I would definitely go with ponzu sauce, but I don’t think the combination of white rice and ponzu sauce is particularly tasty, so when I eat fugu sushi, I use soy sauce.
Bream (286 yen)

Natural sea bream cut into fairly large pieces.
The flesh is so soft that it just falls apart in your mouth.
I was very satisfied with the delicious and satisfying natural sea bream.
Whale lean meat (220 yen)

This is red whale meat, which is also commonly eaten in Kanmon.
You probably don’t usually see whale sashimi in restaurants, but it’s a fairly standard dish in Shimonoseki and Moji.
The flesh is soft, has little fat, and tastes similar to horse meat.
It’s a pretty rich bite.
Grilled grunt (253 yen)

This dish is made by grilling grunt with the skin still attached.
The skin is crispy and fragrant.
The flesh feels like it has been lightly seared.
Mild white fish like grunt, puffer fish, and sea bream become fragrant and delicious when seared.
Scallops (198 yen)

A live scallop with quite a lot of meat.
It has a light taste, but also a rich and sweet flavor.
It’s so soft and seems to melt in your mouth.
Thank you for the meal
Kaito is located on the Mojiko Retro seafront, and is a restaurant you can drop in to whenever the smell of the sea tempts you and makes you want to eat sushi.
Because it is a store directly managed by a wholesaler, it is great to be able to eat really delicious fish at reasonable prices .
It’s not a conveyor belt sushi restaurant, but rather you order your sushi on a touch panel and then the chef makes it right in front of you.
All toppings are ordered individually, so you can try a variety of sushi, which is a nice perk.
The bright and clean interior makes this a comfortable place for families with small children.
