Hello! This is Hitapapa.
Today we will introduce you to sushi restaurant “Morita” located in Kokurakita Ward, Kitakyushu City, Fukuoka Prefecture!
Apparently the previous owner trained at the famous sushi restaurant “Tenzushi,” also located in Kokurakita Ward, Kitakyushu City !
Currently, the owner is the son of the previous owner.
When I spoke to the owner, he kindly replied with a smile, “The ingredients and flavors are the same as those at Tenzushi.”
And the owner added , “It’s cheaper than Tenzushi (lol)!”
By the way, the course we ordered this time was 22,000 yen per person including tax!
For ordinary people, this is a very reasonable price.
This sushi restaurant, “Morita,” is extremely popular, and reservations can be difficult to make unless you make them six months to a year in advance.
Now, let’s enjoy the famous sushi restaurant “Morita”!
The previous owner apparently trained at Tenzushi, a famous sushi restaurant in Kitakyushu.

Exterior

The street in front of the building where Morita is located looks like this.
It is located on a shopping street in Kokura.

Morita is on the second floor, so take these stairs up.
There is an elevator at the back of the building.

Go up the stairs to the second floor and follow the hallway.
I walked nervously further in and saw the Morita shop curtain.
I’ll take a seat.
There are only seven seats at the counter.
There is a chair behind the seat, so please place your bag and other belongings there.
The counter is made from a large, solid piece of wood, and the warmth of the wood is very pleasant to the touch.

When you sit down, the first things served to you are cucumber, sea grapes, wakame seaweed, and salt.

Pickled ginger is also available.

Salted cucumbers.

Wakame.
Serve with ponzu sauce.

Coarse salt.

The drink coasters are made using Kokura’s traditional “Kokura weaving.”
It’s really cool how they’ve paid attention to the local details, even down to the coasters.
Enjoy the best sushi
Ginkgo nuts

The first thing to appear is ginkgo nuts.
Simply salty.
②Conger eel

Next is “hamo”.
Served with plum sauce.
The light-tasting conger eel goes perfectly with the rich, sweet and sour plum sauce!
Grouper and sea urchin

“Kue” sashimi and “sea urchin”.
Serve with soy sauce.
I don’t usually get to eat grouper, so I was pretty excited!
The sea urchin is extremely rich and smooth.
We carefully savor each and every piece of sea urchin.
Ahh… I’m so happy♡
By the way, the wasabi is freshly grated in the store. It has a great aroma.
Just this wasabi and soy sauce will go down a treat with rice!
The sea urchins are caught locally on Ainoshima Island.
It’s rich yet smooth and absolutely delicious.
Striped jack

Serve with ginger soy sauce.
It has a great crunchy texture!
It’s extremely fresh!
⑤Octopus

It’s boiled octopus.
It comes with sweet miso paste.
It’s firm and chewy, yet soft and delicious.
So there you have it, the first five seafood-focused dishes!
Now it’s time for the nigiri sushi!
⑥Bonito

It comes with ginger dressed in soy sauce on top, so you can eat it as is.
Wow, bonito can be so delicious!
Of course, there is no smell at all! (Of course!)
The rice is al dente and delicious.
⑦Flounder

It’s a very meaty flounder.
Even when it comes to flounder sashimi, I’ve never seen it this meaty.
Happy♡
⑧Blowfish

It contains green onions and grated maple leaves inside.
Ah, the gentle flavor and texture of this fugu is irresistible.
⑨Something delicious that I don’t know what it is

The owner explained the ingredients to me, but I guess I forgot because I was drunk…
What is this?
It’s topped with green onions, spicy ingredients, and salt, so I’ll eat it as is.
I forgot the name of the topping, but it was soft and delicious.
⑩Sea urchin

Sea urchin appears again!
This is extremely fresh sea urchin caught locally in Ainoshima.
This time a warship.
It is also served with flying fish roe.
It is served with soy sauce.
As a commoner, I felt it would be a waste to just have one bite, so I started by eating a piece of sea urchin, and then popped the gunkan into my mouth!
Your mouth will be filled with the scent of the sea.
As expected, the richness of this sea urchin is irresistible.
⑪Medium fatty tuna

My favorite medium fatty tuna!
When I was a kid, I would see fatty tuna at sushi restaurants on TV and dream of eating it at the counter myself.
It’s soft and has a mellow tuna flavor.
⑫Shrimp

Huge, meaty shrimp!
It comes with a sweet sauce, so you can eat it as is.
This is the first time I’ve ever had sushi with such muscular, tough shrimp!
⑬Squid

“Tenzushi” and “Morita” specialties: squid.
The dish is neatly cut with a knife, topped with flying fish roe (or maybe sea urchin) and a squeeze of citrus fruit.
It’s salted, so I’ll eat it as is.
The texture of this squid is sure to be unlike anything else!
This way of cutting with the knife creates an amazing texture!
The surface is lightly seared and has a nice aroma.
The best♡
⑭Blackthroat seaperch

It’s grilled rosy seabass.
It’s already salted so I’ll eat it as is.
A harmony of aroma, fat and tenderness.
The fat is packed with flavor and the mild taste is exquisite!
They’re all delicious, but this might be my favorite!
⑮Kelp with roe

Sea urchin and cucumber wrapped in seaweed.
The combination of the kelp roe that dissolves in your mouth and the aroma of sea urchin was so delicious!
⑯Conger eel

Boiled conger eel.
It comes with a sweet sauce on top, so I eat it as is.
⑰Tuna and Seaweed

ラストはトロ鉄火。
中トロの鉄火巻きは、海苔と一緒に口の中で磯のハーモニー♪
うーーまいっ!
Japanese tea

It gently washes away the oil and flavor of the fish you have eaten.
⑱Request!(Blackthroat seaperch)

At the end, the owner said, “If there’s anything you like, please make a request,” and after some hesitation, I decided to request “Blackthroat seaperch”!
Ah, I’m so happy to be able to eat this delicious Blackthroat seaperch twice.
⑲Fruit (Pear)

Finally, we were served pears as a palate cleanser.
Thoughts
To be honest, at first I thought the price of 22,000 yen was expensive, but once I tried it, I understood why it was so expensive!
I was shocked to discover that the same sushi could be this delicious!
Of course, it goes without saying that the fish used is delicious. However, even high-class sashimi doesn’t come close to being as impressive.
This means that sushi made by a skilled chef comes together in perfect harmony in the mouth, with the carefully prepared rice, the way the sashimi is cut, and supporting ingredients such as seaweed and citrus fruits all coming together in just the right size to create a feeling of excitement and happiness for the eater.
And when I thought, “So this is the finest sushi,” I was filled with joy at having been able to visit the high-end sushi restaurant that I had seen on TV as a child, and a sense of happiness at having finally experienced the finest sushi.
I feel very emotional knowing that this is the “final form,” “highest peak,” “max,” or “pinnacle” of the sushi that I love.
Your perception of sushi will definitely change, so please give it a try!
It’s definitely worth the 22,000 yen!
It’s especially hard to get a reservation for dinner, so we recommend making one at least six months in advance!
Everyone should definitely try Sushi Morita, the pinnacle of sushi!
It’s a popular restaurant so it’s hard to get a reservation.
It’s especially hard to get a reservation at night, so it’s best to make one at least six months in advance.
[Update] I visited again
About a year after my last visit, I couldn’t forget how delicious Morita’s sushi was before I came to Kitakyushu, so I went back!
This time too, the course includes appetizers and sushi for 22,000 yen including tax.
No matter how many times I come, it’s always so delicious.
