This time, we visited Sushi no Kura, a sushi restaurant located in Mojiko Retro in Kitakyushu City, Fukuoka Prefecture.
This sushi restaurant has counter seats with large glass windows, allowing you to enjoy your sushi while looking out over the Kanmon Straits .
The shop is conveniently located right in front of JR Mojiko Station, and is surrounded by retro streetscapes and beautiful views of the Kanmon Straits.
Mojiko Retro is popular for its grilled curry, and tourists tend to flock to those restaurants, so this restaurant in front of Mojiko Station is a hidden gem, offering a clean interior where you can eat sushi while looking out at the spectacular view of the Kanmon Straits .

Exterior
Sushi no Kura is located on the 4th floor of this building right in front of JR Mojiko Station.
This is the entrance to the building.
The sign for a restaurant on the 7th floor of the same building is so conspicuous that it is difficult to find the entrance, but this is where you enter the building.
It’s a little confusing, but the entrance is where the sign for the restaurant “A Place in the Sun” is in the same building.
Don’t worry, there is a sushi restaurant sign at the entrance of the building.
Right in front of Sushi no Kura is JR Mojiko Station, which has been restored to its original structure from the early Taisho period.
This ultra-retro station building is full of things to see.
The street in front of Sushi no Kura is a beautiful area with red brick buildings and retro townscape, and is home to the Nippon Yusen Building, the former Osaka Shosen Building, and the Premier Hotel Mojiko.

It’s interesting that there is sushi attached to the 4th floor where Sushi no Kura is located.
When you get off the elevator on the 4th floor, you will find the entrance to Sushi no Kura.
Atmosphere inside the Restaurant
There are a number of counter seats lined up on the Kanmon Strait side.
If you are visiting alone or with two people, we definitely recommend these counter seats.
The large glass-enclosed counter seats offer a spectacular view of the Kanmon Straits!
You can also see the Kanmon Bridge and the Straits Dream Tower in Shimonoseki, Honshu.
On a sunny day, the blue sky and sea are truly spectacular!
Just then, a ship arrived at Mojiko Port from Shimonoseki, on the opposite side of the Kanmon Strait.
It’s great to be able to eat sushi while watching the Kanmon Straits, where various ships pass by, including ferries traveling between Mojiko and Shimonoseki, and large tankers!
The counter seats offer an incredible view of the Kanmon Straits.
There are also table seats available.
The table seats offer views of JR Mojiko Station.
From the windows of the table seats, you can see the Mojiko cityscape, including JR Mojiko Station, the station square, and the Nippon Yusen Building.

I’ll enjoy having Sushi
Nigiri sushi set (1,280 yen)
This time I ordered the lunch menu, which is only available on weekdays from 11:00 to 14:00 .
This is a great value set that includes “6 regular nigiri sushi, 3 thin rolls” or “Seafood chirashi” with a small side dish, red miso soup, and chawanmushi .
This time I chose “6 regular nigiri and 3 thin rolls.”
Red miso soup
The red soup stock is low in salt and has a gentle flavor, making it delicious.
It’s great to sip this red soup after every piece of sushi.
Small bowl
A salad of marinated seafood with a hint of vinegar.
It’s very tasteful to have Western-style side dishes at a sushi restaurant.
Chawanmushi
Hot chawanmushi with plenty of dashi stock.
It jiggles when you scoop it up with a spoon.
It contains large ingredients such as shiitake mushrooms, shrimp, squid, and ginkgo nuts.

A wide variety of beautiful sushi!
All the sushi toppings are cut into large, thick pieces, so you’ll be pleased with how filling they are♪
Let’s get started!
Red tuna.
It is cut into fairly thick and large pieces.
It’s very soft and has a rich red meat flavor.
Yellowtail.
I love the gentle texture and sweetness that is unique to this yellowtail.
Delicious♪
Sea bream.
It’s cut into fairly large pieces.
The flesh is extremely soft.
The light yet gentle flavor of Thai is the best!
Shrimp.
It’s quite large and has a very bouncy feel to it.
It’s chewy, the meat is thick and it’s absolutely delicious!
Squid.
The squid is thick but extremely soft.
The sweetness unique to squid is excellent.
Conger eel.
The sweet sauce goes perfectly with the tender conger eel.
It’s very filling!
Three pieces of tuna rolls.
It’s filled with plenty of lean tuna and the flavor of the seaweed makes it the best♪
All of the sushi has large pieces and is cut thick, so it’s very satisfying!
A sushi restaurant with a spectacular view of the Kanmon Straits
This was a truly luxurious sushi restaurant, with counter seats completely made of glass, allowing you to eat sushi while looking out at the spectacular view of the Kanmon Straits .
The restaurant is clean and the sushi is delicious.
In Mojiko Retro, tourists tend to flock to grilled curry restaurants for lunch, so I think Sushi no Kura is a hidden gem where you can eat delicious sushi at a great price while taking in the spectacular view in front of Mojiko Station .
Right next to the shop is a promenade along the Kanmon Straits, where you can enjoy a stroll while looking out at the sea.
After walking along the promenade for about one minute, you will arrive at the drawbridge, a famous Mojiko retro attraction.
The drawbridge is raised about once an hour, so if you’re lucky you can see it raised.
Mojiko Retro is known for its grilled curry, but we also recommend Sushi no Kura, where you can enjoy sushi while taking in the spectacular view of the Kanmon Straits, so be sure to check it out!
