Hello! I’m Hitapapa and I love Beppu!
This time we came to “Tatsumaki Jigoku”(Tornado Hell) in Beppu City, Oita Prefecture!
“Tatsumaki Jigoku” is one of the tourist attractions of Beppu’s “Hell Tour,” where geysers erupt forcefully from the ground .
The geyser occurs every 30 to 40 minutes and continues to spew hot spring water for about 10 minutes .
This is a must-see spot for tourists in Beppu where you can feel the power of the earth!

Right next to “Tatsumaki Jigoku” is “Chinoike Jigoku,” which is also part of the hell tour, so it’s a good idea to visit both “Tatsumaki Jigoku” and “Chinoike Jigoku” together.
Now, let’s introduce “Tatsumaki Jigoku” 😄

The exterior of “Tatsumaki Jigoku”

“Tatsumaki Jigoku”, one of the Beppu tourist attractions and hell tours, is a little far from the center of Beppu and is surrounded by mountains in a pleasant location rich in nature.
Right next to it on the same street is “Chinoike Jigoku.”

Parking is free, plentiful and spacious.
It’s a large parking lot that can accommodate tourist buses.

The sign that reads “Nationally designated scenic spot: Tatsumaki Jigoku” gets you in the tourist mood.

“Tatsumaki Jigoku” is a geyser that erupts from the ground every 30 to 40 minutes, and once it starts erupting, it continues spewing hot spring water for about 10 minutes.
If the geyser has just finished erupting, you will have to wait about 30 minutes, so if that happens, it’s a good idea to head to the neighboring “Chinoike Jigoku” first to ensure a smooth tour.

Enter “Tatsumaki Jigoku”

The inside of the park is like a small square.
It has a very simple structure, consisting of a hole from which the geyser comes out, spectator seats, and paved asphalt.
It doesn’t have the atmosphere of a nicely maintained park like other hells.

There are plenty of seats for spectators.
If there are a lot of people, you can stand in the back.

A geyser erupts from here every 30 to 40 minutes.

The hot spring water that has accumulated about 50m underground gushes out due to pressure.

This is where the geysers erupt.
The geysers that erupted pool up and become like an open-air bath.
Wait about 5 more minutes for the geyser to erupt.
By the way, when I first came to “Tatsumaki Jigoku”, the geyser had just finished erupting, so I went to see the neighboring “Chinoike Jigoku” first.

The edges of the hole where Tatsumaki Jigoku’s hot springs accumulate are covered in a thick, brown coating of hot spring components!
Judging from the appearance, it is a very thick hot spring.
By the way, there is a temple called Chosenji Temple diagonally across from “Tatsumaki Jigoku”, and the temple has a bath that uses hot spring water from “Tatsumaki Jigoku” that anyone can use♨️
The spring quality is a saline acidic spring, and it is a complex and very strong hot spring that is sour like lemon and has a salty and iron scent.
“Tatsumaki Jigoku” is a very concentrated hot spring with lots of ingredients stuck to it.
A geyser erupts with great force!

The geyser erupted!
This is “Tatsumaki Jigoku”!
It suddenly erupted without any warning!
The geyser suddenly erupts.

The hot spring gushes out with great force!
The upper part where the geyser comes out has a stone roof, so the geyser hits the roof.
If that roof wasn’t there it would have shot up even higher.
However, without the roof, the geyser would have shot up to about 30 meters, making the surrounding area so messy that it would no longer be a pleasant sight, so a roof was installed.

It continues to gush out vigorously along with the hot spring steam.
Apparently the temperature of the spring is a whopping 105℃ ( ゚Д゚)
It’s over 100 degrees Celsius!
Hot water gushes out with force.

Steam from the hot springs is rising into the sky.

The geyser continued to erupt vigorously, but suddenly, without any warning, it stopped!
It stops really suddenly (゚Д゚)
Steam still rises from the hot spring filled with the boiling water of Tornado Jigoku.
The whole area is covered in white smoke from the tornado.
Conclusion
Thank you for reading to the end!
