From the parking lot to the entrance of Udo Shrine

There is a fairly large free parking lot.
To get to Udo Shrine, you have to go down a fairly narrow road off the main road, but I was surprised to see such a large parking lot.
There is a spacious free parking lot

It is just a few minutes walk from the parking lot to Udo Shrine.
We walk through the mountains, feeling like we are entering the world of Ghibli.
There are many different kinds of plants and trees, and the greenery and mountain scent are soothing.
The roads are well paved and easy to walk on.

Along the way, there was a huge tree lying there.
Apparently it is a large, historic tree called “Udoyama Ipponsugi.”
“Udoyama Ipponsugi” is definitely worth seeing!

Once you get through the mountain path, there is a long staircase that you need to go down.
We have a two-year-old child and we took a stroller with us, so we had to carry the stroller up the stairs going down.
There are still many stairs after this, so it is best to use a baby carrier and not bring a stroller.
Udo Shrine has many stairs, so if you have a baby with you, it’s safer to use a baby carrier rather than a stroller.

After descending the stairs, there was a nice souvenir shop.
It was quite crowded with a lot of customers.

There were many festival-like stalls around the souvenir shops.
For now, I’ll buy some candy apples to keep my kids (ages 7, 4, and 2) happy.
It took a while to move on because we couldn’t finish the candy apples, but the kids were satisfied so it was okay.

We have arrived at the entrance to Udo Shrine!
Let’s take a commemorative photo here for now.
Entering Udo Shrine. A magnificent view of the sea.

The beautiful red entrance resembles Dragon Palace!
The sea is right next to it, and the combination of the shrine, sea, and sky was amazing!

The clear blue sea is incredibly beautiful!

The red of the shrine, the phoenix, the sea, the sky and the sunlight.
This is a shrine where you can enjoy Miyazaki to the fullest!
I’m so excited!!
The combination of the sea, sky and shrine is so beautiful!

Let’s cross the quaint bridge ♪

As always, the ocean stretching out to the side is a spectacular sight!
There are lots of rugged rocks and the water is very clear!
The ocean is highly transparent

There is a mountain behind the Chozuya, but there were lots of wild monkeys nearby!
There were several baby monkeys and even several large adult monkeys!
They were making the same squeaking noises as they did at the zoo, and flying freely up and down the trees.
The monkeys seemed to be living freely, without any fear of humans.

To visit the shrine, we go further down the stairs built into the cliff.
The cliffs, rugged rocks, and blue sea – the entire location is amazing!
(We had to go down a long, steep staircase, and the stroller was quite a burden here too.)
Udo Shrine is a shrine on a cliff with a spectacular view!
Visit to Udo Shrine, a shrine located under a rock.

Once you go down the long staircase, you will find the entrance to the main hall.
The main shrine is carved into the rock wall!
It almost feels like you’re inside a cave.

This is the main shrine where you will pray.
It feels more like it’s inside a cliff or a cave, rather than under a big rock.
It was a place with a unique, clear air and a sense of holiness.
As usual, I put in some coins as an offering and prayed for the health of my family and myself.
The main shrine is located inside a cave in a cliff!

There is also a place inside the cave where you can draw fortune slips and buy amulets!

The sunlight shines through the gaps in the rocks!

You can walk inside the cliff, or inside the rock, or even inside the cave.
There are also votive plaques hanging here.
You can walk inside the cave! It’s so mysterious!!

The name is “Pat the Rabbit,” and it is said that you will receive good fortune if you pet the stone rabbit.

There was a place inside the cave that was set up like a small Japanese garden and lit up.
It’s so interesting!!

This is the remains of the birth bath.

The famous “Ochichi candy” is sold at Udo Shrine.
There is a rock called “Ochichi Rock” inside the cave that drips with water, and this candy is made using the water from that rock.
This is the standard “Ochichi candy” at Udo Shrine.

Looking out from inside the cave, the sunlight streaming in makes it look truly beautiful and mysterious.

I bought a charm with a picture of a rabbit on it, which my eldest son (7 years old) liked.
Throwing “Untama” at “Udo Shrine”

In front of the main shrine is a cliff like this, with rocks and the sea stretching out before you.
A standard event at Udo Shrine is the “Undama” throwing.
It is said that if you throw a stone called an “Undama” at the rock and it gets caught in the rope loop on top of the rock, you will receive good fortune.
The rocks and the sea spread out before your eyes and the view was breathtaking!

Each person throws five “Untama.”
First, you’ll pay an initial fee of 200 yen to get five “Untama”.

It is a stone that appears to be made of clay and has the word “luck” written on it.
I’m sure if you throw it in the ocean it will return to nature.
First, get five “Untama” for a 200 yen offering.

You throw the “Undama” ball at a big rock (called Kameiwa because it is shaped like a turtle).
Men throw with their left hand and women throw with their right hand.
You throw the “lucky ball” aiming at the rope on top of the rock.

The target is the hollow in the rope.
If you throw it lightly it’s easy to reach, but it’s difficult to get inside that rope!
Even if they enter the rope, they are bounced off by the rocks and thrown out.
If it falls into the water-filled part of the depression, you’ve succeeded!
It’s so difficult!!
My eldest son (7 years old) also tried it, but even though he got inside the rope, he still got bounced out.
You’ll want to try it again and again!
The “Untama” doesn’t go inside the rope.

On the way back, we once again climbed up these long, steep stairs.
I carry the stroller again and go back up the stairs this time😆
