Hello! I’m Hitapapa and I love hot springs.
Today we will be introducing you to “Yutoriro Yamaga” in Yamaga Onsen, Kumamoto Prefecture!
It is located in the hot spring town of Yamaga Onsen, a historic hot spring resort in Kumamoto.
This hot spring resort is popular for its warm, viscous waters.
The inn is located close by (just a few minutes by car) and has great access to tourist attractions such as Sakurayu (public bath), Yachiyoza (Kabuki), Chiyonozono Sake Brewery, and Yamaga Lantern Folk Crafts Museum!
- The hot spring water is of excellent quality! (pH 9.8, alkaline, slimy and viscous, perfect for beauty)
- Located in a hot spring town, it has excellent access to tourist attractions!
- The hotel and rooms are clean!
- The lounge offers shochu tasting, soft drinks, and coffee! (Free)
- You can roast marshmallows on the hearth in the lounge! (Free)
By the way, this stay was for two adults and three children in one room (Japanese-style room), and the plan cost about 18,000 yen per adult.
So let’s get started!

Exterior

You can see the river from the room.
(By the way, I couldn’t post any photos of the room this time because they were all messy…)
Lobby

Beautiful umbrellas welcome you.

Lounge.
You can try different shochu, soft drinks, and coffee for free.
This is great!

There is a large hearth in the lounge where you can roast marshmallows over a charcoal fire!
The kids loved it!
Adults can enjoy free shochu with roasted marshmallows!
Shochu has zero sugar content, so it surprisingly goes well with sweet marshmallows!

You can pick up a yukata in your size from the lobby.
We also have yukatas for children.
The children were also excited, saying, “I’m going to wear a yukata!”
I guess the kids also want to enjoy the extraordinary experience of a hot spring resort (laughs).
Hot Spring

[Photos of the hot springs are from the official website]
The water flows directly from the source and is fresh and super slippery!
The spring quality is alkaline simple hot spring with a pH of 9.8. The hot spring is thick and gentle on the skin, so it is known as “beauty skin hot spring.”
The moment you put your hands in the water you feel a very slippery sensation, and when you soak your whole body it feels even more slippery.
I went in with my son in my arms, but both of us got slippery in the water! lol
It also has a faint sulfur smell.
The hot spring is lukewarm, so you can relax in it and it’s safe for children too.
(※There were other guests in the hot spring so I couldn’t take photos, so I used photos from the official website.)

Thoughts
This time, I was very relaxed in the quiet hot spring town of Yamaga Onsen.
Tourist attractions are close to the accommodation and concentrated in a small area, so it’s nice that you don’t get too tired.
Traveling with children can be tiring for adults, and if we spend too much time sightseeing the children start to get cranky, so sightseeing in Yamaga was just the right amount of fun.

This isn’t limited to the “Yutoriro Yamaga” where I stayed this time, but for some reason Yamaga Onsen is generally cheaper than other popular hot spring resorts in Kyushu!
I think Yamaga Onsen itself is quite a hidden gem.
It’s perfect for those who want to stay in a genuine, high-quality hot spring at an affordable price.
Please come and visit Yamaga Onsen “Yutoriro Yamaga” at least once!
See you soon!
